ORIGINALE MULTIPLO is an art gallery and printing house in Milan founded by Ferruccio Invernizzi, gallerist and art printer heir to the cultural heritage and artistic material of Giorgio Upiglio (one of the best-known art engravers and printers in Italy and in the world) and Alfredo Ceruti gallerist and art entrepreneur, who inherits the passion from his father Antonio, founder of the “Anconadue” Cultural Circle in Milan.
ORIGINALE MULTIPLO deals with and exhibits modern and contemporary art and presents original works, numbered graphics and above all “Original Multiple” artworks by author, continuing and renewing the artistic activity and the work of integration between the various forms of art started by Giorgio Upiglio.
In 1996 the founder Ferruccio Invernizzi gave life to a new cultural and artistic project, creating, with the collaboration of important artists, the “Manifesto of the Original Multiple ” and thus defining the guidelines of a new revolutionary methodology of graphic work.
The Original Multiple artwork is not born as a reproduction or copy of the original, nor as a serial reproduction and multiplication of images, but as a unique creation of multiple originals, a series of sheets that have a single initial plate (matrix) as a common starting point, and where, from the decisive collaboration between the craftsman and the artist, without delegating to the impersonal function of the machine, new elements of originality are inserted into the work of art from time to time, variations resulting from personal creativity and imagination of the author, so as to create a unique and unrepeatable artwork.
The Original Multiple artwork therefore arises as a revenge of the concept of original against the reproduced image, where the horizon widens and the artist can exercise every possible provocation, can extend the language and experimentation and satisfy new needs in a complete freedom of expression.
A creative, dynamic, constantly evolving work, while maintaining the tradition and art handed down by the greatest master engravers, which is carried out with precision, building the final result in various steps.
On each unique matrix (iron, copper, aluminium, or other plates), multiple images, shades, grooves and scratches can be engraved, with combinations of different chalcographic techniques (etching, aquatint, drypoint, burin, etc.); to these are also overlaid screen printing techniques, collage, decollage, flocage, printed by hand on fine papers thanks to the use of presses and decorated with various materials including carborundum powder, marble dust, etc., and hand retouching with watercolour, tempera, acrylics, gold and silver dust, according to the experience of the printing craftsman and the personal imagination of the artist who expresses his creativity in continuous evolution by taking advantage of new expressive possibilities, through the complex variety of techniques and materials offered from graphic technology.
The Multiple Original artwork also allows it to broaden the use and dissemination of art; in fact, it presents itself as a “meeting point between the public and the work of art which, while remaining a unique piece, collectible“, with the absolute guarantee of authenticity, “offers enthusiasts a further possibility of approaching and appreciating of the work itself “, aware of including in the collection not a copy, but a work that the artist has created exclusively for that expressive medium, in perfect dialogue with all his production.

“In each reproduction, in this case multiple but unique, you can feel the presence of the artist who from time to time inserts a new touch of originality into the work of art, the result of his personal imagination that finds expression on every single print. ” (Massimo Moratti taken from “the Manifesto of the Original Multiple”)
“… by enhancing the individual qualities of the artist, it opens up the market to other types of artwork by expanding the chain of relationships and exchanges between the gallery owner and the new collector who is increasingly attentive to the possibilities of current artistic expressions.” (Enzo Cannaviello taken from “the Manifesto of the Original Multiple“)
